Gym

Our state-of-the art School Gym was built in 1997. Each child in our school has access to the gym at least once a week for Physical Education class. The gym is equipped with the latest equipment ranging from: Basketball hoops, Indoor soccer goals ,Gymnastic equipment and great variety of balls beanbags, racquets, plastic hurleys and cones. Children from other local schools and clubs use our facilities after school hours and at weekends.

Inclusive Education

We in St. Anthony’s BNS believe in an inclusive education for every child. We cater for children of all abilities including children with Special Needs who can be accommodated within mainstream schooling. We have a dedicated team of Special Education Teachers who cater for children with varying intellectual, physical and visual disabilities. We are equipped with a stair lift and our entrances and exits are wheelchair- friendly. We liaise with various outside agencies such as the Lavanagh Centre, SHINE Autism Charity, Regional Autism Unit and the Educational Service for the Visually Impaired.

Computers

Our fully equipped computer room has 36 PCs, a data projector and printers. All staff members are trained to teach computer skills. Each class has an allocated time in the computer room. All classrooms are connected to the Internet and all resource rooms have a computer. Access to the Internet is safeguarded by Netnanny to ensure the safety of our pupils.

Interactive Whiteboards

Every classroom in St. Anthony’s School is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard. All staff members have been trained in their use. These whiteboards are connected to the internet which enhances the children’s learning greatly. In the last few years, we introduced, Bua na Cainte, a fully interactive Irish Language Programme to our curriculum, which uses innovative digital resources that deliver an exciting, new approach to learning Irish in the lower standards. ??/

Disabled Features; Disabled Facilities

All our entrances and exits are wheelchair friendly. A stairs lift is located in the central staircase of the school. There is a bathroom for the disabled on the ground floor. A designated car parking space is provided in the car park.

Local Green Areas

We are very fortunate to have access to the local green areas which are large and well maintained by Cork City Council. Weather permitting; hurling, football, rugby and soccer training takes place here, while younger children utilize the green spaces for nature walks, sports days and picnics.
